2014 was a good year. A damn good year, in fact.
I am famous for starting projects and not finishing them. That wasn’t the case last year, and I have 309 printed pages and nearly 84k words to prove it. 2014 will always be the year I started AND completed my first novel. No matter what comes of it (I’m looking at you 2015), I will always have this achievement.
My good friend (and amazing author), Tara, shared a video with me as I started my writing journey last January. Author Kristan Higgins gives a powerful (and funny) speech that resonates even more so with me now that I’ve finished a novel. I can relate to so many of her experiences: the late nights thinking about your book and even kissing your own hand! (Once you click the link, scroll down to Kristan Higgins to view her speech from the 2013 RWA Annual Conference.)
While I wanted to start this blog earlier and discuss things I’ve discovered along the way, I needed to make sure I would actually finish the book. I welcome your thoughts and feedback. I’ve learned so much over the past 12 months from other authors and people in the world of fiction. I still have a ton to learn especially as I start the query process early this year.
