Before I share my news (although the header gives it away!), I need to say why I’ve been MIA from my blog. I’ve been busy these last two months whipping my manuscript into shape in preparation for starting the query process. I finally finished my manuscript last week (at least for now). I’ve also been finishing up the heart of my query pitch and cleaning up the synopsis.
In the middle of all that fun, I got a magical call bright and early this morning from author and RWA Board of Directors member, Shirley Jump. She was very sweet even though I kept telling her, “No way! No way!” It was surreal, and a part of me still questions if it really happened.
When I submitted my application for RWA’s Golden Heart® Award in the erotic romance category, I honestly didn’t think I had much of a chance of becoming a finalist. This is my first book. Ever. I was learning and making it all up as I went along. Hell, I even had forgotten what a gerund was and had to look it up! (Don’t tell my old AP English teacher.) I applied for the Award as motivation to edit my manuscript. Sure there was a little, “What if?” dream moment, but I didn’t give it much thought.
Yet, the stars aligned and pigs are flying outside, and I am a 2015 Golden Heart® Award finalist. I wasn’t planning on attending the RWA Nationals, but now I’m on my way up to NYC this summer. It will be my first time attending a writers’ conference, and I picked the creme de la creme of conferences to attend. I know I am in for one amazing experience attending as a finalist, and I plan to be a sponge and take it all in.
So I am ready for the next adventure. Excited to meet other finalists and prepare for Nationals. Bring it!
